IFMIS ProcurementOn 30th October 2005, the Government of the Gambia concluded the procurement process for the IFMIS by signing a contract with the most responsive bidder, Soft-Tech Consultants Ltd. This firm has its headquarters in Tanzania as well as offices in Kenya and Uganda. Soft-Tech has successfully implemented a nationwide IFMIS solution in Tanzania and are also behind the ongoing IFMIS implementation in Malawi. We are therefore hopeful that the Gambia will benefit from the wealth of experience possessed by the Consultants. The IFMIS contract entails the supply of an IFMIS application package comprising of Epicor software version 7.3.5 for the financial modules and NAS.NET software for the HR/payroll module. The IT infrastructure will comprise of a three tier computing architecture with a central database and application server set-ups at the Data Centre, which will be based at the Directorate of National Treasury, and remote workstations of thin client PCs at the Departments of State. Local Area Networks at the Departments of State are to be linked to the Data Centre via a Wide Area Network using a hybrid combination of fibre and radio based local loop technology. To ensure business continuity, a Disaster Recovery Site will be set up at a location far from the Data Centre.
